Jim Running Club Mentor
I started running about two years ago; I was overweight and getting bigger! I had always been fit but over the previous four years had let myself slip and when I had my BMI taken and it was in the obese zone, having just turned 40,  I knew I had to start doing something.

I started off running and walking and gradually increased the running stretches until I could run three miles without stopping, I use to see other people out running and one of these was an old school mate, he was a member of the running club and kept on at me to give it a go but I was always nervous of taking that step as I thought everyone there would be a top level athlete! Eventually he persuaded me to go with him and I have never looked back, my idea of the running club couldn’t have been further from the truth, everyone was really friendly and helpful and the club catered for all abilities and ages.

I was really nervous when I ran my first 10k race but since then I have ran loads of them as well as a few half marathons and two full marathons. I’m not a great runner and will never break any records but I enjoy it and to me that’s what running is all about; you set your own goals and challenges and it’s a great feeling when you achieve them.  I also enjoy the social side of the club and as well as gaining a new hobby, which I love, along the way I have lost weight, got fitter and met some great people and new friends.
